Angel Tree
It is already nearly time for the 2009 Christmas Angel Tree Project! We have nearly (200) children with Down syndrome in need of sponsors and adoptive families in (25) countries around the world. (172) of them already have their own Christmas Warrior, folks who have signed up to provide focused efforts to raise $1000 or more for their Christmas child's adoption grant fund. For those of you who are new to RR, when you donate $35 or more for one child's grant fund, you will receive a beautiful porcelain photo ornament of your sponsored child to hang on your Christmas tree! These also make very personal and meaningful GIFTS for people you know who are advocates of children with Down syndrome or adoption in general. Nobody wants more scented hand lotion! GIVE THE GIFT OF A FAMILY this Christmas instead.The Sponsorship Page goes live on November 1. The project runs until December 31. Lilya
Lilya is the other child we are prayer warriors for. She is in the same orphanage as Charlie and they could be adopted together.....wouldn't they make cute siblings! She too is 5 years old and needs to find her family asap.

Girl, Born August 12, 2004
Lilya is a darling little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was born from first pregnancy, she was one of the twins who were born via Cesarean operation. At birth she weighed 2,480 kilos and was 45 cm in height. The second child of twin pair was healthy. Mother rejected Lilya at maternity house. Lilya was diagnosed having DS, mental retardation, atrioventricular syndrome in well-balanced form, without defect of interventricular septum (surgery is advisable). Lilya is almost 5 and is blessed to still be at her baby house! She can still be saved from the institution. Lilya is very kind, tender, calm. Understands when she is addressed by adults, repeats actions after adults, performs tasks on elementary level. She dresses herself and eats herself, independently. Repeats certain words after adults and speaks some independently. Likes to play with colorful toys. Likes to look through books with pictures/drawings and list them thru. Puts elementary puzzles and pyramids together. Lilya is very smart and has amazing potential. She is in the same orphanage with several other children and could be adopted with them. Please give her the chance she needs to reach her potential!
From one of our adoptive families who visited with her in July 2009: Lilya is beautiful, soft, and gentle. She is walking and has a smile that lights up the room! She reached out and stroked my cheek with her chubby little hand. She would make a wonderful daughter!

Charlie is such a handsome boy! My family is his prayer warrior and have been praying daily that he finds his family....he needs to find a family soon as he is already 5. Please read his profile.

This darling little boy needs a family right away. He has light brown hair and brown eyes. He is HEALTHY, with only strabismus as a complication to his DS. His grandmother visited the first year of his life, but not since then.
From his caregivers: " The boy is calm and very kind. He dresses himself and eats himself. Speaks some words. Understand when he is addressed by adults, performs tasks on elementary level. Very interested in toys, can concentrate his attention on books, likes musical instruments very much, and especially enjoys "playing" the piano. " From an adoptive family who visited with him: Charlie was a little shy at first staying near his caregiver but then with prompting began to sing a song and dance with his caregiver. He was able to perform several songs and poems while doing the hand motions with her from memory. After a while he too would come and give us hugs around our legs. He has more intelligible verbalization but still some speech impaired. He is ambulatory and does not have any visible impairments, appearing healthy. (Without labored breathing or pallor)

Arthur (16)
Boy, Born March 1, 2008
Arthur is a little chunk! Doing so well, and so young. And look at his little peach fuzz on top! :) We are so glad the officials have eliminated the requirement for our children to wait 14 months before being adopted!! Arthur is doing great! He does have a minor heart condition, anomalous chord in the left heart ventricle, but can be followed by a cardiologist when he gets home.
Arthur is at the perfect age for early intervention services and ease of transition into a family!
From one of our adoptive families who visited with him in May 2009: " I believe this is Arthur. He was just the most pitiful thing. His face needed to be cleaned and I wanted to wash him off so bad! He was sitting up on his own it looked like, but he was super quiet. He was fascinated with my camera but was so pitiful and didn't have much to smile about. :( He looked like a little lover baby that needed some good cuddling. I wanted to hold him so badly. He needs a family to give him the affection he needs! "

Currently RR has several families adopting from Eastern Europe and there is one particular area that has decided to stop adoptions.......even those that have already started and been to court. One family had their court date and was told they just needed to wait the 10 day wait period and they could bring their daughter home. Well that hasn't happened and their daughter is still at the orphanage and they do not know if they will ever be able to bring her home :( They are not able to go to a different region as they have already paid their money for this little girl. Right now the only thing we can do is pray. Pray the court appeal works and that this country will let this little girl go home with her family. That they will see how much better life will be for her here in America. And we can also pray that this region changes their ways and allows future adoptions as there are other RR families waiting to travel and pick up their children.

Nikita

Nikita is still waiting! We thought he had a family through a different agency, but they did not adopt him. Now he is still in need of a family and facing the institution! Nikita is HEALTHY, and is an orphanage favorite. he is very active, happy, and a ray of sunshine! He can be adopted with Anton or Emory, or a number of other angels!

Liza is a darling, happy, and helpful little girl who is waiting for her forever family. We are waiting on further medical and DOB info about her. Please check back soon!
She is facing the institution, so please save Liza and give her a chance for a family!!
From one of our adoptive families who visited with her recently: "My impression of her is that she is very loving. Quite the cuddle bug. Very even tempered. Laid back, easy going. Likes hugs, a LOT! Middle of the line as far as development, not super ahead of the class, but certainly not far behind others in her groupa either. Tons of potential with a little love!She walks and smiles. she does vocalize, although I'm not sure if they are words yet. She clearly understands why we are here, and you can tell she wants her own family too. I really want a MOMMY for her!"
